Funky Colorful Light Bulbs

Unique X KAWS Light Bulbs These funky light bulbs are limited edition and are out of stock – but we wanted to highlight them for their design quality. The Standard X KAWS light bulbs came in sets of three: red, purple, and green and would fit into any standard ceiling light socket or lamp. The playful (almost seedy) nature of these bulbs makes them ideal for restaurants, shops, or a bar/lounge setting.

Interior Design Showcase – A French Café and Restaurant

Modern French Cafe Interior Design

For this interior design showcase I will be taking a look at La Corde a Linge, a French café and restaurant located in La Petite France, Stasbourg.

The restaurant has a nice rustic feel to it, with the treated exposed wooden beams, tables and bar area, along with the choice of lighting fixtures. The space uses a number of different lighting fixtures which creates unique lighting layers and effects. Here we can see the use of barn lights (the flat pancake ones), more antique lights above the tables around the bar, and also industrial styled lights. The designer behind all of this is Drach P. Claude.

Interior Design Showcase: DiVino Wine Bar

Wine Bar Interior Design

The DiVino Wine Bar, a Hungarian design by Suto, uses a color scheme that has high contrast – with the black going up against the very light brown. Splashes of yellow/orange are present from the drinks display lights.

The wine bar makes use of a number of different light fixtures, which is essential in creating different lighting layers and effects for a well lit area. Asides from the display lighting, the space also incorporates multiple chandeliers, recessed lights, angled spot lights above the bar counter, and a sleek continuous track light that spans the entire bar area.

Modern Design: LED Multi Touch Interactive Bar Top

interactive Bar Top

It seems with the explosion of multi-touch tablets like the iPad, the next place where you might be seeing this sort of thing is in bars and clubs. Places that are looking to infuse some technology into their decor, or advertisers looking for more ways to put a message across would be the ones leading interactive bar top surfaces in the near future. There seems to be 3 main components in creating an interactive LED bar counter, the multi-touch surface, the multi-touch software, and the graphics that you’d want displayed. All of which are readily available today. You just need a company to put it all together. spinTouch is one such company making interactive light up bar top surfaces.

The great thing about the concept of adding interactive led bar lighting to the contertops is that it creates a dynamic bar area, perfect for night clubs. There is also the interaction of objects, how one drink is connect to another drink via pulsating lights. The graphics will unleash bar display ideas, pathing a way for advertisers, artists, or even DJs to interact with bar goers. The lights on the display could also be hooked into the sound system so that it syncs with the music being played, much like the DIY music visualizer we posted about before.

Here are a number of videos showing different interactive bar top ideas and designs:

3 Designer Lighting Profiles: Shadow Projectors

The 3 lighting designers highlighted below have created enchanting light pieces. They are designed to light up a room with a range of different shadows. They can be used in homes for decorative lighting – however they would be more suited for retail spaces or restaurant lighting.

The Rontonton

The Rontonton is a Morrocan inspired light shade which can be used as pendant, table or floor lighting. 3 different designs make up the panels of the shade, casting an array of shadows. It was designed by Edward van Vilet for Quasar, a Dutch lighting manufacturer who produces designer light pieces.  The Rontonton comes in 2 different sizes and the powdered coated steel comes in orange, black, or white.

Dealers for Quasar lights can be found in the USA, Singapore, UAE, Denmark, plus a number of other countries. Studio Dekor is a New York based dealer who can be contacted here.

Dahlia Petal Light

With a soft glow, the Dahlia light looks like it is living and breathing. The light softly illuminates the petals, and gives off subtle shadows. The light can be hung on the wall or on the ceiling. Either way, the Dahlia will defiantly create a focal point in a room, much like a chandelier would do. Designed by Janne Kyttänen and available from Freedom of Creation for €1930.25.
